Imagining a Better Education

This quote from a bumper sticker seen in the U.S. found its way into my blog reading:

“It will be a great day when schools get all the money they need and the Air Force will have to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.”

Truly, this would be a great day. I'm not saying that the way to solve all the problems in the world is education; the situation in Libya and a very different one in Japan highlight that education has its limits. However, there is no doubt that a greater priority upon free and open education would improve the world we live in. With the current priorities placed upon increases in military spending and increased restrictions on education budgets, it is easy to see that our collective values are more on the conservation of our current way of life and less upon learning, understanding, and the free exchange of ideas.
